Saving Energy from Water

When we think about saving energy, we will often think of implementing energy efficient bulbs and things like that and we understand that using more gas and electricity will use up a lot more energy and increase our bills. However, one of the things that a lot of people don’t rally pay attention to is using water in the house. It is important to know that using water will take up a lot of energy as hot water has to be heated by an energy source. Usually, it is heated by either gas or electricity so it is important to take this into account as well.

Luckily, there are some pretty simple ways to save energy when it comes to your water use and one of the ways that you can do this is simply by having a short shower. It is common knowledge that having a shower instead of a bath will save energy and after and if you are showering already, then this is great. However, if you stay in the shower for half an hour or so, you will actually probably be using just as much energy as you would if you had a bath. It is for this reason that you should try and keep your shower lengths as short as possible. This will save you time, energy and money so there really is no reason not to do this. If you struggle to know how long you’ve been in the shower, simply set a timer for 5 minutes or so and get out when it goes off.

Another way that you can save money from water is when it comes to your washing machine. Simply by putting your washing machine on a cycle that is not quite as hot or that is a little bit shorter, you will save a lot of energy. As well as this, a lot of washing machines these days come with tumble dryers and it is common for most people to use these tumble dryers most of the time. However, if the weather is nice outside, then hang your washing out and save energy. Tumble dryers account for a lot of energy use within the home and a lot of the time, it is completely unnecessary, especially during the summer months.

Installing a combi boiler will also save you money, however, it is quite costly to implement and it is not able to be done by everyone.
