Lighting is one of the ways that we use up a lot of the energy in our homes and at work as it is necessary for a good percentage of the day. There has been a lot of research put into this area over the last few years and there are now energy saving light bulbs out there on the market that aim to lower the amount of power consumption that we have through lighting as well as offering a better lifespan on traditional bulbs. However, there is now a type of lighting that could be the future as it is even more efficient than normal bulbs or even halogen bulbs and this is LED Lighting.
Up until now, LED has only been used really in TV’s and so forth, but it is expected that it could be the future of all our lighting and energy saving worries. LED lighting has already been used in some parts of the world to replace the traditional lighting and it is expected to get more popular over the next few years.
It is thought that LED lighting doesn’t offer just a little bit higher efficiency when it comes to lighting, but it actually offers a lot more efficiency. In fact, it has been said that it could mean an energy reduction of between 50 and 90 percent when compared to normal halogen bulbs.
When we look at the numbers, it is easy to see why LED lighting will eventually replace halogen bulbs. It is said that a typical 50 watt halogen lamp will produce 22 lumens per watt of energy that is produced. As well as this, the bulb will last for around 2,000 hours. When we compare this will a typical LED light, it will actually produce the same amount in terms of lumens but it will only take 7 watts. This is a huge energy saving. As well as this, the bulb will last 50,000 hours compared with 2,000.
It is now though that by 2014, more of the newly constructed houses in the UK will feature LED lighting as standard as it is much more energy efficient and will also reduce your electricity bills, Having said that, the bulbs are a little more expensive.
