Buying energy efficient appliances and products

As technology gets more and more advanced in many areas, the products that are being created are getting more and more energy efficient meaning that newer products will use less energy than older products. This is the case with a lot of household products and appliances and if you are looking to save energy and money as well as get a nice shiny new fridge or freezer, you need to know what you are looking for.

It might sound strange that you can actually save money by purchasing a new appliance for your hose but this really is the case. The thing about appliances these days in the UK is that they are all rated by their energy efficiency. If you have ever looked for a new product in your nearest electronics store then you might have noticed this. This is something called the Energy Saving trust Scheme. The way that the scheme works is that every appliance is now rated by its energy efficiency. The best way to think of the scheme is like a school grading system as ‘A’ rated products are the most energy efficient whilst B rated and C rated products are less efficient and so on.

This energy rating system is used on almost any appliance you can think of in the UK and today, even kettles have the rating. If you are buying a new product, then ideally, you should be looking for an A rated product or higher as this will be the most energy efficient and will reduce the carbon footprint of your home. Of course, when you save energy, you will also be saving money meaning that you can actually save money in the long run by purchasing a product which is energy efficient.

The great thing about the Energy rating system is that it is exceptionally easy to understand. Products are simply graded and you don’t have to think about it at all, you just have to look for one that is rated highly. These do usually cost a little more than the less efficient products but remember, the saving will be made in the price of your next energy bill and every energy bill after that. If you have trouble understanding the energy rating system, simply ask someone in the shop to point out the best products for energy efficiency. Whether you have to ask or not, it should be something you take into account.
